The Dawson County High School Lady Tigers soccer team dominated at the Tournament of Champions event played at Jekyll Island on March 13-15.

The Lady Tigers outscored their three opponents 13-0. Dawson County picked up wins against Mt. Paran, 3-0, Redan, 7-0 and Statesboro, 3-0.

Anela Melton recorded all three shutouts. Melton now has seven of the team's eight shutouts.

"We came away from Jekyll with all our questions answered. For the second year in a row we came away undefeated with no goals scored on us. I feel we are ready now and think we have the identity we were looking for," said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

Thursday's game with Mt. Paran saw the Lady Tigers get out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from McKay Shively on an assist by Kathryn Ryerse at the 37 minute mark.

The Lady Tigers added another goal eight minutes later by Shively again, off an assist from Brooke Cagle.

Shively completed her hat trick with a goal with 22 minutes remaining off a pass from Taylor Bennett.

On March 14, Dawson County faced a very athletic Redan team. The Lady Tigers used their skills to score four first half goals to put the game away.

Scoring were: Riley Cox, Mackenzie Callas, Ava Walker and Bennett.

Picking up first half assists were Shively, Isabella Elliott and Callas with two.

Dawson County added three more goals in the final 40 minutes off the feet of Ryerse, Walker and Shively.

Shively has eight goals on the season.

Getting assists were Tina Libao with two and Jessica Chambers.

In the final game on Saturday, the Lady Tigers came away with another win due in part to some fine defensive play.

Both teams locked down defensively in the first half. Dawson County finally broke through on a goal by Bennett with just 14 minutes remaining until halftime. Emily Queen was credited with the assist.

It was Bennett's seventh goal this season.

Dawson County added another goal from freshman Callas on an assist from Libao just three minutes later to take a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Libao iced the game in the second half with a goal just five minutes into the third quarter on a pass from Ryerse.

"This team is so young with five freshmen and only two seniors. We have been very inconsistent in our play. I think Emily Queen had a great tournament. Emily was playing basketball and was not in soccer shape. She has been working hard to catch up and it looks like she is there now. Emily just dominated the middle and she made everyone on that field better," Lacey said.

The Lady Tigers will be tested this week with games against two state ranked opponents who just happen to be in the same region. To make it even harder for Dawson County, both games are on the road.

On Friday, the Lady Tigers will travel to Cleveland to face the No. 10-ranked White County Lady Warriors. White County comes into the game with a 7-1-2 record.

On March 25, Dawson County will travel to Buford to face the No.-4 ranked Lady Wolves.

Both games will kick-off at 5:30 p.m.
