Video surveillance from a neighbor's private security system helped investigators find two suspects they say are responsible for a string of thefts from automobiles in mid-February.

Zachary Jamal Maxwell, 21, and Zachary Paul Hayden, 17, both of Dawsonville, are facing six felony entering auto charges, felony theft by taking and five misdemeanor theft by taking counts.

The suspects allegedly cased vehicles for unlocked doors off Perimeter Road near Dawson County High School the night of Feb. 18, according to Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten.

A 9mm handgun was among the items taken. Electronics and tools were also reported missing.

"Along with the video surveillance, Stan Harrison, one of our school resource officers, was familiar with the kids in the area that matched the description," Wooten said.

Maxwell and Hayden were taken into custody Friday at a home on the east side of the county.

"They were staying there because they knew we had arrest warrants for them," Wooten said.

As of Tuesday, both suspects remained in custody at the Dawson County Detention Center. Bond has been set at $33,200.
