The Dawson County baseball team is off to a great start. The Tigers, under first year head coach Thad Burgess, are currenlty 3-0 with wins at East Jackson Feb. 26, 13-0, and Chestatee on March 1, 10-2.

"We are still really learning each other, but it is nice to be 3-0," Burgess said.

The Tigers fell behind early at Chestatee, but rallied to take the eight run win. Several Dawson County players had a great day at the plate, led by catcher Colton Chester with a mammoth home run. Chester also drove in three RBIs.

Harley Pruitt went 2-for-3 with two triples and an RBI. Logan Burt was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Taylor Gaddis was 1-4 with a double and an RBI.

Once again Burt (2-0) was strong on the mound. The senior pitched five innings with eight strikeouts, while only giving up two hits.

Levi Whitmire, just coming from basketball, pitched the last two innings and picked up two strikeouts.

Eric George and Tanner Gable recorded the only two hits for Chestatee.

"It was good to see us get down a couple of runs early and respond so well," Burgess said.

On Feb. 26, Dawson County made the long trip to Commerce to face East Jackson. It was well worth the journey with the Tigers coming away with a 13-run victory.

Junior pitcher JT Eggert was dominate on the mound and pitched five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and only surrendering three hits.

Eggert also had a big day at the plate with a three-run homer.

Burt was 3-4 with two RBIs in the win. Levi Whitmire also produced three hits in the win.

Brody Chester pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Dawson County.

Ryan Thomas led East Jackson's offense, going 2-for-3.

Up next for Dawson County will be Gilmer County on Thursday in Ellijay before beginning Region 7-AAA play March 10 against West Hall at home.

The Gilmer game will begin at 5 p.m.

First pitch with West Hall will be at 5:55 p.m.
