ASK THE EXPERTS

Electronic Recycling Day set for March 14

POSTED: March 4, 2009 4:00 a.m.

For the first time, Keep Dawson County Beautiful has partnered with Atlanta Recycling Solutions of Alpharetta to hold an electronic’s recycling day in Dawson County.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 14, at the Wal-Mart Shopping Center on Ga. 400.

“This is the first time that we will be doing this event and we are really looking forward to it,” said Cathy Brooks, government and community affairs representative of Dawson County.

“I encourage the entire community to bring their old electronics to be recycled because they are made with valuable and reusable materials,” added Brooks.

Karen Armstrong, treasurer of Keep Dawson County Beautiful, says that the event is a great way for people to usefully dispose of their old or out-dated electronics, such as VCRs and stand up/stand alone television sets.

“We are asking for a minimum donation of $5 per carload drop-off for us (Keep Dawson County Beautiful) to fund the event and be able to give back to the community,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong added that the donation is not required, no one will be turned away, but would be greatly appreciated.

Acceptable electronics for the event include: computers, monitors, printers, record players, typewriters, stereos, CD players, telephones, fax machines, UPS/battery back-up, cell phones, copiers, circuit boards, projectors, VCRs, CB radios, camcorder cameras, 8 tracks, network equipment, radios, computer parts and cables, as well as TVs.

There is a $10 removal fee for TVs.

“Keep Dawson County Beautiful is proud to partner with Atlanta Recycling Solutions to make this event possible,” Brooks said.

“I would like to extend thanks to Karen [Armstrong] for being an instrumental part in coordinating this very worthwhile event, and also to Cecil Bennett and Wal-Mart for allowing us to hold this event,” added Brooks.

For questions or more information, call Karen Armstrong at (706) 344-3640, or Cathy Brooks at (706) 344-3501, Ext. 255.
