Coach Steve Sweat's Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers' basketball team matched up against region rival and No. 3 ranked in Class AAA, Buford (20-2; 11-0) Jan. 31 in Dawsonville.

Dawson County was unable to recover from a 17-2 first quarter deficit and dropped a 59-23 decision to the Lady Wolves.

"We just couldn't get anything going tonight," Sweat said.

The Lady Tigers picked up the pace in the second quarter and scored 11 points, but it wasn't enough as Buford held a commanding 33-13 halftime advantage.

"We just didn't handle Buford's pressure all evening. Offensively, we just didn't do very well," Sweat said.

Dawson County scored just five points in each of the final two quarters.

Ashley Parker led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 10 points. Karlie Bearden added five points and nine rebounds; Haley Burgess scored three points, Jordan Moore and Sheyenne Seabolt scored two points each and Peytan Porter contributed with one point.

Camille Anderson led Buford in scoring with 24 points.

Dawson County has an overall record of 15-7 and the Lady Tigers are 6-5 in Region 7-AAA, currently.

Up next for the Lady Tigers will be two home games that will conclude the regular season.

On Friday, Dawson County will play West Hall at 7 p.m. and will have a make-up game at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Banks County.
