Grapplers honor seniors

Tigers outlast two opponents

The Dawson County High School wrestling program recognized its seniors during the annual Senior Night tradition Jan. 14. The Tigers grapplers picked up two big wins against Riverside Military Academy, 57-18, and Rabun Gap, 72-6.

Head Coach Arron Haynes said farewell to eight seniors: Coty Greer, Zach Guy, Ryan Jones, Levi Kennedy, Forrest Ehrlich, Keaton Toal, Jacob Haberkam and Chase Wilson.

Guy and Toal are having great senior seasons with unofficial individual records of 29-5 and 29-3 respectively in the 160 and 220 pound weight classes.

Dawson County handled Riverside fairly easily.

Getting team points by way of pin were: Keaton Toal (220 pounds) over Taylor Hardin, Jacob Haberkam (285 pounds) against Alyn Jordan-Bass, Justin Evans (113) versus Nicholas Turner, Jeremy Whalen (136 pounds) pinned Nhut Dang, Zach Guy (160 pounds) over Zach Kometas, Gavin Brown (182 pounds) against Adam Rush, and Brett Whalen (195 pounds) won against John-Mark McFarlane.

Winning in a 6-0 decision was Harrison Adams (136 pounds) against Nhut Dang.

The Tigers manhandled Rabun Gap in the tri-match with several Dawson County wrestlers getting points by way of pin.

Gavin Brown (182 pounds) over Shawn Jackson, Chase Wilson (285 pounds) versus Benjamin Musonera, Josh Poe (106 pounds) against Kitan Salako, Justin Evans (113 pounds) over Edmundo Ortiz, Quade Buytendorp (120 pounds) over Matthew Barr, Robby Barrett (126 pounds) versus Mike Ji, Gilbert Pruitt (152 pounds) versus John Kovaka and Levi Kennedy (170 pounds) against Vinicius Pavoni.

Winning by forfeit were Forrest Ehrlich (195 pounds), Harrison Adams (132 pounds), Jeremy Whalen (138 pounds) and Zach Guy (160 pounds).
