It was a tough week for the Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers' basketball team. Coach Steve Sweat's squad suffered two Region 7AAA losses to put them at 3-3 in region play.

The Lady Tigers fell behind early at Buford on Jan. 8, and came away with a 64-43 loss to the Lady Wolves (14-1; 6-0).

Dawson County's Ashley Parker scored the first basket and then the slide began. The Lady Tigers managed only six more first quarter points, while falling behind, 20-8, after one quarter of play.

Once again Parker scored the first two points of the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers didn't score again for five minutes and 49 seconds, on a free throw by Parker. By that time, the game was out of hand and Buford was leading 39-13.

Parker finished with 12 points in the contest.

Buford's defensive pressure forced Dawson County into 35 turnovers in the contest.

The offensive drought continued in the second half. The Lady Tigers managed just five third quarter points and trailed 50-21.

Dawson County picked up the pace in the final quarter. Still playing against the Buford first group, the Lady Tigers scored 22 points, but it wasn't enough as Dawson County could not climb back into the game.

The Lady Tigers were playing without Sweat. He was with his family due to the birth of a grandchild. Coach Anne Hyams replaced Sweat on the bench.

Sheyenne Seabolt led Dawson County in scoring with 14 points. In addition to Parker and Seabolt, also adding points were Haley Burgess with eight, Karlie Bearden with seven and Brooke Wende with two points.

The Lady Wolves were led by Camille Anderson with 20 points and Corey Staples with 13 points.

The game was rescheduled from Tuesday night due to inclement weather.

On Jan. 10, the Lady Tigers played host to North Hall in front of a huge crowd in Dawsonville.

Dawson took the lead 13-12 with 1:51 left in the first quarter on a basket by Parker and didn't relinquish that advantage until seven seconds remained in the contest. With the Lady Tigers leading 60-58, North Hall nailed a three-pointer to take the lead 61-60.

The Lady Tigers had a final shot with three seconds left, but the shot missed.

"The Lady Tigers played a tough one tonight," Sweat said. "We let a 10 point lead to start the fourth quarter vanish and lost by one point."

The Lady Tigers led 52-42 entering the final quarter and extended that lead to 54-42 on a shot by Bearden.

Dawson County missed three front ends of one-and-one free throws, with under a minute to play, to allow North Hall back in the game.

"We must quit turning the ball over and make more free throws. Just finish strong," Sweat said.

Seabolt had a strong game offensively for the Lady Tigers. She scored 25 points. Parker had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Also scoring were: Bearden with 12 points and seven rebounds, Peytan Porter added six points and Jordan Moore had two points.

North Hall (10-4; 4-1) hit 10, 3-pointers.

Sydney Cleveland led the Lady Trojans in scoring with 25 points.

The Lady Tigers are currently 12-5 overall on the season.

Up next for Dawson County is a trip to Fannin County on Friday night for a Region 7-AAA game against the Lady Rebels. The Lady Tigers have already defeated Fannin (6-7; 1-3) earlier this season by a score of 70-56.

Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
