The 28th Annual Amicalola Wrestling Classic came to an end on Saturday afternoon. After an exciting two days of wrestling, host team Dawson County finished in second place with 201 team points.

It was an encouraging sign for the Tigers as they had four wrestlers capture first place medals by winning their respective weight class.

According to Head Coach Arron Haynes, the team's finish was impressive as they were missing four starters during the tournament.

Winning the tournament was West Forsyth with 217 points.

On Friday night of the tournament, the team wrestled in dual matches with East Jackson, Murphy, N.C., and East Hall. The Tigers defeated East Jackson, 63-12, Dawson "B", 75-3, and Murphy, 66-12, before losing an exciting match to East Hall, 40-33.

"I was very proud of how our young men battled this weekend to take second place while missing four starters," Haynes said. "The tournament went great and was ran very smoothly thanks to the help of my wrestling parents, and our faculty. I also can't say enough about how hard my managers worked along with my outstanding assistants in Gregg Adams, Noel Poisson, Ryan Coker, and Kenny Houseal to make this a great tournament."

Winning their weight classes were: Zach Guy (160-pounds), Gavin Brown (182-pounds), Brett Whalen (195-pounds) and Keaton Toal (220-pounds).

Tiger Harrison Adams picked up a second place finish in the 132-weight class.

Jeremy Whalen (138-pounds) and Josh Poe (106-pounds) each took a third place medal in their respective weight class.

Taking fourth place and adding valuable team points were: Robby Barrett (126-pounds), Gilbert Pruitt (152-pounds) and Jacob Haberkam (285-pounds).

Rounding out the scoring were East Hall (193.5 points), Mount Vernon (128), Murphy (117), Fannin County (78) and East Jackson (61).

The Tigers are gearing up to wrestling in the Area Duals Friday and Saturday at Fannin County High School.

Dawson County will back at home at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 when the team will match-up against Wheeler High School.
