The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle collision Monday that claimed the life of a Dawson County teenager and injured four other people.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been filed in the wreck, which occurred about 4:30 p.m. near Kelly Bridge and Coltrane roads in southwestern Dawson County.

An operator with the Cumming post of the state patrol said the agency’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team would return to the scene later in the day to try to determine what caused the wreck.

Authorities identified the teen as Tyler Hutchinson, 18, of Dawsonville. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt when he was thrown from a Ford Probe driven by a Cumming woman.

The wreck marks Dawson County’s first traffic-related death of 2009. There were 10 traffic-related deaths in 2008. Nearly half of those killed last year were not wearing seat belts, authorities have said.

The name of the woman who was driving the Probe has not been released, nor have the names of the injured.

Another passenger in the Probe, a teenager from Dawson County, was taken to North Fulton Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Deputy Russell Smith said the driver of the second vehicle and her young child were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the Probe was also taken to the hospital in Gainesville, authorities said.
