ASK THE EXPERTS

Grapplers end season at state tournament

POSTED: February 24, 2009 4:09 p.m.

The big story was a state championship by Joe Perry, but two other Tiger wrestlers also participated in the State Traditional Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth over the weekend.

David Wood (112) and Preston Adams (135) finished their seasons at the prestigious tournament.

Wood, a junior, went 1-2 this past weekend. He lost his first match against Joey Tamburello from Dade County by way of pin.

Wood bounced back to defeat Quinton Noel with a 5-2 decision in the wrestle backs. His season ended with a loss to Cody Shubert.

Wood ended his season with a 51-17 overall record.

Freshman Preston Adams went 0-2 in the state tournament.

Adams lost matches to Cody Siffles from Chattooga by a pin and just barely lost to Brandon McBee, junior, from Sonoraville by a 2-1 decision.

Adams ended his season with an impressive 43-19 record.

“Both of these wrestlers had a great season,” said Head Coach Arron Haynes. “To get this far is an accomplishment all in itself. We are going to count on both of these young men, and several others, to be the backbone of our team next year.”
