ASK THE EXPERTS

Golfers lose to Lumpkin County

POSTED: February 24, 2009 4:01 p.m.

Battling cool temperatures and the wind, the Dawson County boys’ golf team dropped its first match of the season 171-157 to Lumpkin County High School.

The 9-hole match was played at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Cody Palmer was the low medalist shooting a 41. Tigers Nick Fitts and Justin Denard both carded a respectable 43 each. Wesley Bearden scored a 44 to complete Dawson’s scoring.

“This score would have won most of our matches last season. I was pleased with our performance, with it being the first match of the season,” Tiger Head Coach Van Samples said.

Both the boys and girls will host Pickens County High School March 4 at Crystal Falls in a 9-hole event.

The girls’ team plays its first round of the season today at Crystal Falls against Fannin County. Scores were not available as of press time.
