The Dawson County varsity boys basketball team continued its winning ways with a 52-32 win over Social Circle Nov. 26 at the Walnut Grove Thanksgiving Shootout.

The game was never in jeopardy as the Tigers jumped out to a 23-5 first half lead. The second half was a little more competitive with both teams being able to convert offensively.

Lucas Pain led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points. The Tigers were able to put eight players in the scoring column.

"We took control of the game in the first quarter," Head Coach Thad Burgess said. "We did not play with the same intensity as we did in the first two games."

Dawson County out-rebounded the Redskins 45-23. Brandon Abbott and Sam Muenchen both did well for the Tigers and pulled down 10 and 13 rebounds respectively.

"We are still learning how to play together and handle different situations. We are getting better and as we play more and we should continue to improve with game type situations," Burgess said.

The Tigers are currently 3-0 on the season, while Social Circle dropped to 0-4 on the young season.

"I'm so glad to get off to a 3-0 start, winning always builds confidence, and I think we are getting better practice to practice, and game to game," Burgess said.

Dawson County opened its Region 7-AAA schedule yesterday with a game at home against Fannin County. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Tigers will travel to Banks County Dec. 6 for their second region game.

"It will be very important to get a jump on the rest of the region. We all know each other so well since all the coaches have been at their program a couple of years," Burgess said.

Tigers scoring: Lucas Pain with 21 points, Cameron Millholland with 11 points, Jackson Putnam scored eight points, Levi Whitmire scored seven points, JT Egger and Abbott contributed two each and Kolton Brumbelow scored one.
