ASK THE EXPERTS

Tigers travel for scrimmage

POSTED: November 19, 2013 4:26 p.m.

The Dawson County High School boys and girls basketball teams played a scrimmage game at Rabun County last week.

The Nov. 14 scrimmage aimed to serve as a last tune-up before both teams opened the season at home against Pickens County yesterday. Scores were unavailable as of press time.

Coach Thad Burgess' varsity boys team outscored Rabun 20-10 in the fourth quarter to take a 66-47 win. The Lady Tigers were not as fortunate. The ladies lost by 10 points to the Lady Wildcats.

Jackson Putnam led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points.

"It was a nice way to get some good work in before opening the season next week with Pickens," Burgess said. "I liked our effort and how we stayed in the game when Rabun took a six-point lead, and then when they made a run at the end."

Dawson County is missing starting point guard Jonathan Sanderson who suffered a possible season ending knee injury during a recent practice.

"We are starting five new faces and how they responded in the game was very good. I thought it was important with the terrible news of losing our leader, Jonathan Sanderson, our only starter returning from last season. It was nice to do well, especially having so many battles at their place over the last several years," Burgess said.

Sanderson has been the starting point guard for the Tigers for the last three years.

Also scoring for Dawson County were: Levi Whitmire-nine points, Lucas Pain-nine points, Cameron Millholland-eight points, Brandon Abbott-five points, Terrell Dawson-five points, Kolton Brumbelow-five points, Sam Muenchen-four points and JT Eggert contributed two points.

Rabun County was led by Troy Addis with 18 points and Mark Poole with 10 points.

Both teams will travel to Pinecrest Academy on Friday. The girls' team is set to tip-off around 7 p.m., the boys game will follow immediately afterwards.
