Dawson County High School signed its first scholar athlete for the year on Monday.

Martie Rogers signed a scholarship for fast-pitch softball with Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.

The university is a NCAA Division II school.

"This is a great day for the family," said Jimmy Pruett, Dawson County High School head softball coach. "This shows the rewards for Martie with the years of hard work she's put into this. I'm proud of her."

Rogers' mother, Nickie, also received the same scholarship while playing for Dawson County.

"This is our first second-generation fast-pitch softball scholarship in the school's history," said Dawson County School Superintendent Keith Porter. "Her mom was a great player and Martie has followed in her footsteps. They worked extremely hard as a family for Martie to get here."

Porter coached Rogers' mother when she played in school.

"It's good, coming from a small town where you know everybody," Rogers said. "I just want to thank everyone for the support they've always shown me."
