Boys move to 2-0

Girls come from behind

POSTED: November 19, 2013 4:20 p.m.

The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team moved to 2-0 with a 39-33 win over Fannin County last week in Dawsonville.

Coey Watson had a big game for the Tigers. He scored 23 points in the victory.

Ty Fox also scored in double digits with 10 points. Nathan Sorrells and Logan Brumbelow added three and two points respectively.

Dawson rallied from a 16-12 halftime deficit to outscore the Rebels 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 27-23 lead.

"We played great," said Head Coach Jonathan Tinsley. "Fannin is a great team. Each team made runs during the game. We did a great job when we got the lead and controlled the tempo. Our guys also did well at the free throw line late. It was a battle and I'm really proud of them."

In the eighth grade girls' game, the Lady Tigers had to come from behind to pick up a 24-21 win.

Coach Tina Brown's team was trailing 16-11 entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers picked up the offense, behind leading scorer Emma Brown, to outscore the Lady Rebels 13-5 to come away with the three-point victory.

Brown ended up with 12 points for the Lady Tigers.

"It was not a pretty game," Brown said. "We had way too many turnovers and missed shots. It was sloppy from the jump ball. I am proud that my girls did not give up and came back to win late in the fourth."

Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Abi Chatham with four points; Cadey Ayers-three points; Calli Watson and Marley Hamby with two points each; and Carley Burt contributed one point.

Both teams will be back in action Dec. 6 against cross-county rival Riverview Middle. The boys' team will be at Riverview Middle, while the girls will be at home.

Tip-off will be at 4 p.m.
