Students at Kilough Elementary got a chance last week to spend time with their mothers at school.

In its fourth year, the annual mother/son evening at Kilough was held in the form of a block party for this year's event.

According to PTO President Abby Liberatore, the Nov. 7 party continues to grow in participation and level of activities each year.

"We feel it is important to have a mother/son event to continue to build the bond between mother and son in a society that boys continue to need their mothers for love, guidance and support," she said. "We all know how important it is to have strong parental involvement in our children's school life."

Liberatore said that the event was designed as a way for the kids to have time with their mothers in a fun environment without being interrupted by the daily bustle of busy lives.

"It's great fun," said mother Carrie Holley. "My kids have been talking about it for days. I think it's really important for schools to have these kinds of things."

Holley, the mother of two sons, Jake, 6, and Max, 5, said her younger son talked nonstop about how excited he was for his first mother/son event at school.

Liberatore said that the PTO plans on making each year bigger and better.

"We are looking to build this event over the years and are hoping to partner with one of our other county elementary schools for next year's event," she said. "This will continue to build the community partnership between our schools, as well as support strong parental involvement."
