The Riverview Middle School basketball teams opened their seasons on Saturday with a full slate of games against visiting Lumpkin County.

Anna Lowe led the seventh-grade girls team with 16 points in a 35-22 loss to the Lady Indians. Lowe had 14 of those points in the second half.

Coach NaTosha Berry's team was missing two guards because of other commitments so the team was short-handed and dressed out only six players.

In the seventh grade boys game, Coach Steven London picked up his first win of his coaching career with a 27-17 victory.

Chase Walls led the way with eight points for the Eagles.

Riverview pulled away in the fourth quarter and outscored Lumpkin 8-7 to get the win.

Eagle Reid Glaze scored seven points for Riverview.

The eighth grade girls lost a 12-10 heartbreaker to Lumpkin. Trailing 7-4 entering the fourth quarter, Berry's team took the lead 8-7 with 4:18 remaining in the game.

Lumpkin fought back to tie the game 10-10 with just 27 seconds left in the contest.

The Lady Indians caused a turnover to get the ball with under 10 seconds left in the game.

Riverview deflected the ball out of bounds. After a timeout, Lumpkin designed a perfect inbounds play and hit a shot with two seconds remaining for the win.

Coach Mark Thomason's eighth grade boys used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to take a 20-13 advantage at halftime, after trailing 13-8 early in the game.

Cullen Reed had a huge game for the Eagles. He had a game-high 26 points in the 41-27 victory.

Connor Bearden also contributed eight points in the victory. Also scoring were: Brian Gallenkamp - four points; Wyatt Haase - three points and Colby Cagle scored a single point.

The seventh grade teams traveled to Pickens County Middle School for a game Nov. 12, while the eighth grade teams will visit Pickens Middle on Nov. 14.

Tip-off will be at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, all teams will be in action with games at Lumpkin Middle beginning at 10 a.m.
