Designer jeans targeted in heist

POSTED: October 23, 2013 4:00 a.m.

About $8,000 in designer jeans is missing from True Religion at North Georgia Premium Outlets after authorities say at least two suspects smashed through a front window of the business overnight Friday.

Dawson County Sheriff's spokesman Tony Wooten said the suspects "were in and out of the store in 19 seconds."

According to Wooten, they took between 35 to 45 pairs of jeans in the heist, which happened just after midnight. The jeans are valued at about $200 a pair.

Deputies arrived within three minutes of being notified that the store's burglar alarm had been activated, Wooten said.

Investigators recovered a sledge hammer inside the store that they believe was used to shatter the glass window.

They also are reviewing video footage of the crime, which remains under investigation.

No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made.

With the holiday shopping season fast approaching, Wooten said deputies have increased their presence at the mall and the surrounding retail areas.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the sheriff's criminal investigations division at (706) 344-3535.
