ASK THE EXPERTS

Four arrested after jean theft

POSTED: February 18, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Four people were arrested Friday after they reportedly took about $2,000 in designer jeans from North Georgia Premium Outlet Mall.

The group, which included one man and three women from Atlanta, was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Ga. 400 in southern Forsyth County.

Carmen Simone Dodson, 20, of College Park and Genika Woods, 19, of Atlanta were each charged with felony party to a crime of shoplifting, according to Dawson County Sheriff’s reports.

Drafus Raymone Gill, 20, of Atlanta was charged with felony shoplifting.

The third female suspect, a juvenile, was released to her family, according to Dawson County Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Wooten.

Dodson and Gill were released on $2,200 bond.

Woods, who authorities were able to identify as a suspect in a Jan. 3 shoplifting incident at the outlets in which five pairs of designer jeans were taken, remains in custody. Bond has been set at $4,000.

Authorities said Gill used a bag from a different store to conceal jeans he reportedly took from Off Saks Fifth Avenue.

The group left the mall in a 1995 gray Oldsmobile. Alerted by Dawson authorities, Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle at 400 and Hwy. 141, Wooten said.

Wooten said Friday’s shoplifting was related to the one in early January, but could not say if the group was involved in last year’s rash of blue jean thefts.

“It’s way too early for us to comment on that,” Wooten said.

In May 2008, more than $10,000 in designer jeans were taken from the Saks outlet in what authorities described as a smash and grab robbery.

A similar incident at the same store June 10 resulted in the arrest of five people.

Authorities say those involved in that event have ties to the Atlanta theft ring known as the “Blue Jean Bandits.”
