Elliott takes first truck series pole

Brings home fourth consecutive top-five

POSTED: August 27, 2013 2:47 p.m.

Chase Elliott made history last week as the youngest driver to sit on the pole in NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 94 Aaron's Dream Machine/Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet, the 17-year-old from Dawsonville secured the pole with a 125.183 mph top speed and broke the previous record held by Ryan Blaney at 19.

The Aug. 21 pole was a career first in the series for Elliott, who went on to lead his first laps in the series, staying out front for 63 laps around the half mile oval and finishing fifth to mark his fourth consecutive top-five finish in the 2013 series.

"I appreciate Aaron's and everything they do for me. They've given me the opportunity to get this far, but I'm ready to get a win and hopefully we can do it next weekend," he said.

After giving up the lead at lap 63, Elliott radioed in to crew chief Lance McGrew about a handling condition the young driver continued to battle throughout the race.

"We got super tight about halfway through that first run and when we came up on the lapped trucks, we had a hard time getting past them," Elliott said. "Lesson learned for sure. I'm here to learn, but I'd really like to win. I'm excited about our finish and proud of everybody."

He makes his first truck series start on a road course Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Ontario. The Labor Day weekend race also marks the inaugural Canadian stop for the Camping World Truck Series.
