Dawsonville’s McIntosh dominates at Dixie

Earns first dirt super late model victory

POSTED: August 6, 2013 4:33 p.m.

Dawsonville-native Donald McIntosh took the checkered flag after starting on the outside pole and leading every lap of the Super Late Model feature at Dixie Speedway Saturday in Woodstock.

The win is the first for the 20-year-old in this division and extends his season championship points lead.

"This win was a long time coming," he said. "We have worked so hard since we moved up to Supers and we have had a lot of challenges. It felt so good to see that checkered flag waving for us tonight and I really hope we put on a good show for the fans."

McIntosh took the points lead in the Super Late Model division earlier this season after a steady string of second and third-place finishes in his No. 7 McIntosh Performance Rocket.

"Leading points here at Dixie means so much to me. This is my home track and I won the Crate (division) championship here two years ago," he said. "This group of drivers that race Super each week are incredibly talented and, of course, very competitive...I am truly blessed to be able to compete with them each week at such an awesome facility with such incredible fans."

McIntosh started racing Quarter Midgets at the age of five, before moving onto Minicups where he earned five championships. He also successfully competed in the Legends Young Lions division before winning several titles in the elite pro division.

He then found his true passion in dirt track racing, which has become a family affair, with dad David as crew chief, mom Kit working through racing's administrative duties and sister Kaitlyn, who helps with marketing and photography.

"Racing is what I live for," he said. "The Lord has blessed me with opportunities to continue doing what I love and he has given me a family that supports me in what I do. My family is amazing and it means so much to get this win for them."

McIntosh will be back behind the wheel of his No. 7 machine again next weekend at Dixie Speedway. Five races remain until the end of the points season.
