Much to the collective groans of children across Dawson County, school will be opening its doors and ushering in students next week.

"I would like to welcome those who are new to Dawson County and/or the Dawson County School System," said Keith Porter, Dawson County School superintendent.

"We anxiously await Aug. 8, the first day of school, and having the opportunity to see our new and returning students. Each new school year is filled with anticipation of the great things that our children will learn and demonstrate throughout the year."
But before the big day, the Dawson County school system would like to invite parents and students to attend their school's open house the weekend before.

On Aug. 6, Black's Mill, Kilough, Riverview and Robinson elementary schools will be holding their open house from 4 to 6 p.m. New students will get a chance to see their school before having to navigate its halls the first day and returning students will get a chance to meet their new teachers.

Dawson County and Riverview middle schools will be holding their open house on Aug. 7. Dawson County Middle School's open house will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Riverview Middle School's will be from 5 to 7 p.m.

Finally, Dawson County High will be holding its open house from 5 to 7 p.m., after Dawson County Middle School's. Students will be able to check out their new classrooms and teachers as well as purchase lockers, parking permits and gold cards.

High school students will also be able to purchase lockers, permits and cards before the open house. Tenth-, 11th-, and 12th-graders will be able to make these purchases from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 2. Ninth-graders will be able to purchase theirs from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 5.

All items will also be available for purchase throughout the year.
