Fundraiser supports local animal shelter

POSTED: July 24, 2013 4:00 a.m.

Las Vegas is coming to Dawsonville for the Dawson County Humane Society's Lucky Dog Casino Night.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

"Events such as Lucky Dog Casino help to keep the doors of the shelter open," said Carolyn Bowen, president of the local society.

Along with providing a temporary place for dogs and cats, the shelter also offers the community products and services to help care for pets.

Bowen said that the humane society offers microchipping for a reasonable price to age-appropriate pets and a low-cost spay/neuter program to adult residents of Dawson County who receive public assistance.

"Although the humane society is under contract with animal control, the funds from that contract supply one third of the operating costs of our shelter," Bowen said.

Besides professional dealers at Roulette, Blackjack, Texas Hold'Em, and Craps tables, there will also be live and silent auctions, trivia and dancing.

There is something for everyone, gamers and non-gamers, Bowen said.

Tickets are $50 each and include play money, food, a cash bar and chances to win prizes such as an IPAD, Atlanta Braves tickets and more.

"Come out and have a great time, and support the animals of Dawson County," Bowen said.

The museum is located inside the Dawsonville Municipal Complex at 415 Hwy. 53 East, Dawsonville.
