With football season just around the corner, Dawson County High School Head Football Coach Jeff Lee and his coaching staff took the team and traveled to Presbyterian College for its annual 7-on-7 passing camp July 8-10.

Lee has taken his Dawson County Tiger team to Clinton, S.C. for camp for 10 years. Prior to Dawson County, Lee has been at the camp for 17 years, mainly with Jones County.

"The three days at PC (Presbyterian) were very helpful for some of our inexperienced players who needed the reps against some very tough opponents," Lee said. "It would be hard to get that quality of teams to see over the summer, except at a camp like Presbyterian."

The Tigers finished the 3-day camp with a record of 8-5-2, three games were canceled due to the weather.

"On the last day, our defense probably played some of the best that we had during a four-game stretch. The defense allowed only seven touchdowns total over those four games. That is pretty impressive in seven-on-seven games," Lee said.

The Dawson County head coach praised the play of Logan Hayes, Kyle Hayes, Keaton Toal, Jackson Putnam, Chris Sayler, Zach Guy and Logan Hurst.

"We will have a busy next two weeks," Lee said. "We will have the middle school team joining us for summer conditioning, as they begin to prepare for their season."

Official practice for the Tigers begins Thursday, followed by preseason camp July 31.

"Turnouts for workouts this summer have been really good, as has our senior leadership," Lee said.

The Tigers open the regular season on Aug. 23 with a Region 7-AAA game at East Hall.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
