POSTED: June 18, 2013 4:06 p.m.

There are still several months before the Dawson County High School wrestling team takes to the mats, but several young Tigers have started working on their moves and performing maneuvers over the summer.

Three local youth wrestlers made the USA Future Olympian Rankings recently.

Mason Askew is ranked No. 2 in Georgia and No. 4 in the United States for boys in the 70-pound weight class.

Anthony Corcoran is ranked No. 3 in Georgia and No. 12 in the United States in the 153-pound weight class and Kincaid Schuett is ranked No. 2 in Georgia and No. 19 in the United States at the intermediate 70-pound weight division.

From April through June local wrestlers have been working hard during the Olympic style wrestling season, which features Freestyle and Roman Greco types of wrestling.

On April 6 the season kicked off with the Marine Corps Ironman competition in Jacksonville, Fla.

Dawson County Middle School's Anthony Corcoran had a great meet. He placed first in the Freestyle and Folkstyle types of wrestling.

In Greco-style competition, Corcoran and Askew placed second, Schuette placed third, and his older brother Kincaid Schuette, also of Robinson Elementary, placed fifth. In Folkstyle competition, Corcoran placed second, Nelson and the Schuette brothers all placed third.

On May 25 and 26 the future Tigers competed at the Southeast Regional Championships held at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, competing against some of the top wrestlers from all over the United States.

The competition started with Folkstyle on Saturday morning.

Askew and Corcoran both walked away with second place medals, and River Parrish, Riverview Elementary, placed fourth.

On the second day of competition, Askew and Corcoran placed third, and K. Schuette placed sixth in the Freestyle portion of the tournament.

Then on June 1, Team Georgia Wrestling held it's Freestyle and Greco State Championships at Mountain View High School.
