Ladies look good for summer session

Looks like the Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team is primed to make another run deep into the Class AAA state tournament during the upcoming season.

Head Coach Steve Sweat's team has been dominating teams during summer camp.

Behind the play of post players Ashley Parker and Sheyenne Seabolt the Lady Tigers are really impressing coaches throughout the state so far this June.

The team has already participated in one team camp at the University of North Georgia last weekend. The Lady Tigers played many quality teams and came with a rating of five stars against their opponents.

This week Dawson County is playing at Pickens County High School in one of the most challenging team camps around.

On Monday the Lady Tigers won easily over Class AAA Sonoraville, and played a spirited game against Pickens County.

"We have had one week of practice and we are now playing in our second week of games since school got out. We played the last week at the University of North Georgia. It was a great camp to get the summer kicked off. Many of the bigger schools from Gwinnett County were there, which means it was very good competition. We were able to battle them pretty good. I saw some good things and some things we have got to work on in our next practices," Sweat said.

"We are playing in the Pickens County camp this week. It has been really fun being back with our returning players and being able to get to work on next year," he added.

This summer's varsity squad includes only two seniors: Alison Honea and Madison Shope. There are four juniors: Sheyenne Seabolt, Ashley Parker, Jordan Moore and Brooke Wende. The underclassman are: Erin Chatham, Haley Burgess, Karlie Bearden, Peytan Porter, Ansley Costley and Tabitha Morrison.

This summer's junior varsity squad includes: Lauren Burgess, Katelynn Simpson, Eliza Sillesky, Emily Queen, Heather Brady, Brittany Griggs, Belle Queen, Cassie McPherson, Tatum Pruitt, Mollie Stanfield, Brianna Burt, Brandi Jo Hafermalz and Ashley Coker.
