Shirley Juanita Holland Hughes

Shirley Juanita Holland Hughes, 66, of Dahlonega, died June 5, 2013.

Mrs. Hughes was born Dec. 11, 1946 in Lumpkin County to the late Arthur and Gladys Holland. She had been a resident of Dahlonega for the past 10 years, previously of Dawsonville.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, cook and gardener.

She was also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Dahlonega and worked for many years at the Corner Café in Dawsonville.

Her sister, Juanita Pierce, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Douglas M. Hughes of Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Anitra Holland of Gainesville; stepdaughters and son-in-law, Starr and David Hume of Cumming, Susan Hughes of Dawsonville; stepson and daughter-in-law, Steve and Van Hughes of Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Earl Odell of Oakwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Elizabeth Holland of Dawsonville, Ralph and Melinda Holland of Cumming; grandchildren, Summer Holland, Savanna Holland; step-grandchildren, Garrett Wilson, Gavin Wilson, Hayden Wilson, Jake Hughes, Delanie Hughes, Blaire Hume, Braxton Hume; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. June 8 at Antioch Baptist Church in Dahlonega with the Rev. Clifford Allen officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to help offset final expenses.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
