Mary Julia Orr, 74, of Ellijay, died Nov. 13, 2012.

Her husband, Edgar Orr; son, William F. Thornton; parents, Julian and Ima Creech; and brother, Billy G. Creech, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Joseph and Deborah Thornton of Cumming, James Scott (Kyle) Thornton of Acworth, Mary Ruth and Rocky Phillips of Sugar Hill; brother, Benny Creech of Cumming; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

The family received friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Nov. 16 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations were asked to be made to National Public Radio in Mary Julia's name at npr.org.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
