Girls reflect on success

POSTED: May 28, 2013 3:19 p.m.

The Lady Tiger soccer team held its awards banquet last week at the Dawson County Board of Education Community Center.

Coach Jed Lacey's team is coming off a 13-4 overall record. The team was also Region 7-AAA runners-up, which earned them a first round playoff game with Woodward Academy.

Dinner was served after a welcome message by athletic director Grady Turner and an invocation by George Graves.

Several Lady Tigers received awards given by junior varsity coach Chess Hamby and varsity coach Jed Lacey.

Receiving awards at this year's banquet were: Rising Tiger Award-Sara Bruni; New Comer of the Year-Emily Queen; Best Supporting Player-Taylor Bennett; Coaches Award-Jade Perry; Iron Tiger Award-McKay Shively; Defensive MVP-Kenna Seitz; Offensive MVP-Tina Libao; and MVP "Golden Boot"-Anna Hawkins.

Dawson has a huge future ahead, according to coaches, graduating only two seniors, Jade Perry and Kenna Seitz. The team also has only three juniors in Riley Cox, Brittany Veloce and Suzanne Eckert.

Sophomores on this year's squad were: Summer Armstrong, Samantha Keeney, Taylor Bennett, Ivonne Maldonado, Sara Bywaletz, Meghan Picklesimer, Maddie Contreras, Christina Sanchez, Anna Hawkins, McKay Shively, Kady Horne and Emily Stapler.

There were 17 freshmen that played either junior varsity or varsity: Meredith Wells, Savannah Schuman, Melanie Rimawi, McKenzie Rhoades, Alondra Ramirez, Emily Queen, Tina Libao, Lindsey Knotts, Blanca Gomez, Katie Gayoso, Allison Gilbert, Isabella Elliott, Katie Dial, Jessica Chambers, Madison Callas, Sara Bruni and Laura Anne Branson.

Lacey's team finished the season ranked No. 6 in Class AAA.
