The Dawson County High School varsity girls' soccer team played host to visiting Woodward Academy on May 2 in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs.

The game ended up being a battle of the defenses.

Head Coach Jed Lacey's team managed just one shot on goal against a very sound War Eagle defense that possessed plenty of recover speed.

Woodward didn't fare much better with only eight shots. However, the War Eagles capitalized on a free kick from around 35-yards out with 25:02 remaining in the first half.

Amanda Myles for Woodward hit a perfect ball that Lady Tiger goalie Kenna Seitz was unable to deflect.

It was all Woodward (8-10) needed, as the team's defense clamped down on the Lady Tiger offense.

With the loss, the season came to an end. Dawson County finished this year's campaign with a 13-4 overall record.

Both teams came into the contest with top five rankings in Class AAA.

The War Eagles, coached by Tonia Webb, were ranked No. 4, while the Lady Tigers went into the game ranked No. 5.

Woodward Academy faced off against the Lady Tigers coming off of a seven game losing streak in which the team had not scored any goals.

Dawson County has a wealth of talent returning next season.

The Lady Tigers only graduate two seniors in Seitz and Jade Perry. Seitz and Perry will both continue their playing careers at the next level.

Seitz will play at South Georgia State and Perry at Campbellsville University in South Central Kentucky.

The team had three juniors, nine sophomores and eight freshmen.
