One of Dawson County High School's most talented basketball players will soon be settling in with friends at the University of North Georgia.

Senior Tyler Dominy officially signed a scholarship with the University of North Georgia on Monday morning.

With more than 750 rebounds and more than 1,500 points in his four-year career at Dawson County High, Tigers basketball coach Thad Burgess called him "in the top two to three players in the history of the school."

"Tyler is like a legend in this part of the state. He's so well respected. His name is out there," Burgess said." I know when he made a visit to North Georgia, everybody knew him. It was like he was on campus at Dawson County. It's a perfect match for him. Everyone around him will be able to continue to support him at the games."

Dominy's parents said his determination to be the best started at a young age.

"Tyler's basketball journey started when he was 2 years old," said father Bruce. "His mom and I bought him a Little Tykes' basketball goal and he would play all the time. It's been a long, wild journey for us."

His mother, Teresa Dominy, said her son had always set goals for himself and always met them.

"I remember Tyler would stay outside shooting basketballs well into dark until his dad would make him come inside," she said. "He set a goal for himself that he wouldn't come in until he had made every shot of the routine he had set up for himself."

Dominy said that the University of North Georgia was "just the right fit."

"It was a great fit for me. The coaches there are awesome people," Dominy said. "I know I have a couple of teammates [from his traveling team] going up there with me. I just think I'll really enjoy it up there."
