While most students were enjoying spring break last week, the Dawson County High School varsity baseball team played three close Region 7-AAA games.

Two games were decided by one run and a third was won in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Tigers prevailed over Fannin County on Monday, 7-4, when right fielder Zach Buchan launched a homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. The sophomore connected on the second pitch thrown and the ball easily cleared the right field fence.

The seventh inning began with a double by Harley Pruitt.

With one out, Colton Chester singled, moving runners to first and third. After a fly out to centerfield and two outs, Buchan hit his walk-off homer.

Dawson County managed 11 hits in the game.

Four Tigers collected two hits; David Chester, Levi Whitmire, Pruitt and Colton Chester.

Jeffrey Partington picked up the win on the mound with seven complete innings.

Partington notched six strikeouts, while giving up eight hits.

The team traveled to Gainesville on April 3 to take on a much improved East Hall squad. The Tigers scored runs in the third and fourth innings, but it wasn't enough in the 4-3 loss.

The game was tied at 3-3 until the fifth inning when Tiger pitcher JT Eggert gave up a solo homerun.

Other than the homerun, Eggert pitched a good game. He went six innings, recorded one strikeout and only walked one.

David Pruitt was the only Tiger with multiple hits. He had a double and a single.

Scoring Dawson's three runs were Mitchell Putnam, Colton Chester and David Chester.

Friday's game with East Hall in Dawsonville was a shootout. Together the two teams recorded 38 hits, 23 walks, eight errors, four hit batsman and two homeruns with Dawson County coming out on top of the five-hour, 14-inning game, with a score of 20-19.

The Vikings jumped out to a 17-13 lead after only three innings of play. The Tigers pitching staff then only allowed East Hall two more runs for the remaining 11 innings.

Dawson County got a huge game offensively from Logan Burt. Burt collected six hits in nine at-bats with two homeruns and nine RBI's.

Pruitt also had a good night on offense with three hits, two of which were for extra bases.

The Tigers had 21 hits, five for extra bases, 16 walks and two batters were hit by pitches.

Dawson County is currently 12-6 overall and 9-3 in region play.

This week the Tigers will travel to Buford Wednesday and West Hall on Friday.

Both games will begin at 5:55 p.m.
