Head Coach Steve Sweat and his varsity Lady Tigers’ basketball team lost two Region 8-AA contests last week.

Tuesday, the team dropped a 70-40 decision to Rabun County and Friday the team lost 52-45 to Banks County.

With the two losses, the team currently has an overall record of 4-12.

The Lady Tigers have now lost five straight games.

The Lady Tigers played visiting Rabun County (17-2) close last Tuesday at the Ford E. Phillips Center for a half.

The Lady Wildcats turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and forced Dawson to commit too many turnovers.

Rabun’s tough man-to-man full court defense allowed easy lay-ups in the final two quarters to get Rabun the 30-point victory.

Dawson placed two players in double figure scoring. Sophomores Morgan Bennett and Jessi Phillips each scored 12 points.

Lady Tigers scorers:            Bennett-12; Phillips-12; Alyss Woody-5; Cheyenne Bennett-4; Natalie Parker-2; Morgan Huber-2; Amanda Sheriff-1; Christian Daniel-1; Kimberly Wallace-1.

Jessi Phillips had the offensive game of her career with 17 points against the Lady Leopards from Banks County last Friday night.

Unfortunately, Phillips’ efforts weren’t enough as the Lady Tigers lost 52-45.

The Lady Tigers put forth a great effort, but just could not get a stop defensively at the right time.

Bennett also had another good game from her point guard position for the Lady Tigers, adding 8 points on offense.

Other Lady Tiger scorers included: Daniel-7; C. Bennett-4; Jade Hyde-4; Judith Hall-3; Parker-2.

The Lady Tigers have one sub-region game this week.

Tuesday, the team traveled to Blue Ridge for a Region 8-AA match-up with Fannin County. Scores were unavailable as of press time.

Saturday the team will visit Coal Mountain for a game against 7-AAAAA rival North Forsyth. North defeated the Lady Tigers 61-38 early in the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
