Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding.

The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.

In the March 26 game, senior Josh Lund was the offensive star. Lund scored a hat trick for Lacey's Tigers to get them a hard-earned win against a very talented Spartan squad.

Lund has 13 goals on the season.

"Josh had worked so hard in the offseason to come back this year and help us make a run at the state championship. His work ethic is second to none and showed the younger players what you can become when you dedicate yourself to improving your game. Josh is a quiet leader and lets his presence on the field do his talking," Lacey said.

Brooks Fulford earned his eighth shutout of the season.

"We played our game to perfection tonight. We played Tiger soccer and this was a complete team victory. The defense shut down West Hall's potent offense and we possessed the ball for most of the game. We scored quickly on West and they never got back on their feet. In the second half we backed off and just possessed the ball and made them chase it, feeling pretty confident they could not score three goals on us. We only attacked when the opportunity presented itself."

A game at Blessed Trinity was up next for the Tigers.

The Titans took a 1-0 halftime lead and added two more goals in the second half to come away with the win.

It was the first time all season that Dawson County had allowed a goal.

"I wish we would have played better, but this one is my fault. We are really beat up coming out of the West Hall game and had no time to rest between games," Lacey said.

Dawson County is currently 9-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 7-AAA play.

The team is off until after spring break.
