Battle of two top 10s

Lady Tigers win close one, 1-0

POSTED: March 26, 2013 5:01 p.m.

Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium.

Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

With the win, Dawson County moved to 8-0 on the season and 1-0 in region play.

The Lady Tigers couldn't get anything going against the visiting Lady Warriors.

"I was not happy with our play tonight at all," Lacey said. "We did not play as a team tonight and it showed."

Dawson County scored with 18:38 remaining in the first half off a rebounded shot from freshman Emily Queen.

Lacey liked the play of goal keeper Kenna Seitz and defender Anna Hawkins. Seitz picked up her third shutout of the season and the teams sixth shutout overall.

"I knew we would be a little rusty coming back from Jekyll Island. I did not like the attitude the girls played with tonight. They have two huge games coming up this week," Lacey said.

"I thought Jade Perry took more of a leadership role tonight on the field. She tried to step up and direct some of the younger girls. Jade was demanding that the younger players pick up their game and speed of play."

Up this week for Dawson County is a game against West Hall today. Results were not available as of press time.

On Thursday, the team will take on No. 1-ranked in Class AAA Blessed Trinity.

"Blessed Trinity will bring it at you hard and we better get ready for a fight. Most of our girls have never faced a team like Blessed Trinity and they have a chance to make a name for themselves," Lacey said.

Blessed Trinity comes into Thursday's game with a 9-0 record. The team has not given up a goal all season.

Kickoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
