Seventh grade Tigers trounce Pickens County

POSTED: January 27, 2009 5:04 p.m.

The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade Tiger basketball team handed Pickens County Middle School a 35-24 defeat last Thursday in Dawsonville.

“The guys played great. Probably one of our best games this season,” Tiger Head Coach Steven Moates said.

“We had two players out sick. One was our starting point guard and the other was a guard off the bench. Cameron Millholland stepped in at point and did a great job for us,” Moates added.

Millholland and Jackson Putnam led all scorers with 10 points each for the Tigers.

Dawson jumped out to a commanding 13-2 lead after one quarter.

The Tigers extended their lead throughout the game holding a 31-14 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

“I’m really proud of the guys this year. They have worked hard and they’re improving every game,” Moates said.

Also scoring for the Tigers were: Caleb Stepp-6 points; Colton Chester-3 points; Lucas Pain-3 points and Sam Muenchen with 2 points.

The Tigers will begin competition in the Mountain League Tournament this weekend. Games will begin on Friday and will conclude next week. As of press time, game time for the Tigers had not been set, pending the Tigers finish in the league.
