ASK THE EXPERTS

Boys team ranked No. 3

POSTED: March 12, 2013 4:49 p.m.

The Dawson County High School varsity boys soccer team remained undefeated last week following a 6-0 smashing of Jackson County High School March 12 in Jefferson.

The Tigers, currently ranked No. 3 in Class AAA, have a 4-0 record for the season.

Head coach Jed Lacey's team overcame a very physical game to earn the victory. Several penalties were called on both teams in the first 40 minutes. Each team also had a player ejected from the game for rough play.

It was a tough first half for Dawson County. The Tigers managed two goals midway through the half off the foot of Brandon Lund and Josh Lund. Jose Miranda assisted on both goals and Dawson held a 2-0 halftime lead.

Josh Lund has tallied six goals this season.

"I did not think we played our game tonight, but I think a lot has to do with the conditions of the field and the number of defenders Jackson County played. We had to go through a maze like defense with five and sometimes more players guarding their goal," Lacey said.

Scoring for Dawson County in the final 40 minutes were: Josh Sage, Drew Bishop, Brandon Lund, and Sal Mendoza. Bishop's goal was on a penalty kick. It was the fifth goal of the season for Brandon Lund.

Goalie Brooks Fulford recorded his fourth shutout of the season.

"I think the Lund brothers, Josh and Brandon, are doing a great job of putting the ball in the back of the net this year. They have 11 goals between them already in just four games. I love watching them play," Lacey said.

Lacey added that Fulford's play in goal for the Tigers has also been a strong point.

"Brooks Fulford was in goal for his fourth shutout in as many games. He is just so good back there. You have to make a great shot to get it past him."

Dawson County will be back in action this week as the team travels to Jekyll Island to play in the Tournament of Champions Thursday through Saturday.

Thursday the Tigers will play Cedar Shoals (5-3) at 8:30 p.m. Friday will be a match against Brunswick (0-7) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Dawson County will play Richmond Academy (3-3) at 9:30 a.m.
