Head wrestling coach Arron Haynes honored his senior wrestlers last Tuesday, Jan. 13 during a tri-match with Winder-Barrow and Johnson. Haynes honored his nine seniors in a ceremony before the last match of the evening.

Honored were Patrick Allen, Robert Dean, Isaac Martin, Joe Perry, William Ridings, Nick Tobias, Justin Martin, Clay Reece and manager Crystal Garmon.

Haynes commented about each wrestler’s accomplishments during their wrestling tenure at Dawson County High School.

Clay Reece was honored posthumously. Reece was named a co-captain for this year’s team.

Haynes talked about “Crazy Legs” Reece and how he lost his life two years ago while serving on a mission trip. Haynes also remarked that Clay lives on in spirit and will never be forgotten.

Patrick Allen and Justin Martin wrestled four years for the Tigers. Martin was awarded a “most dedicated” trophy at last year’s banquet and is a co-captain of this year’s team.

Joe Perry, 3 years on the team, has placed 1st, 3rd, and 5th in the Amicalola Classic, has been a state qualifier, co-captain of this year’s team, and was named a “Tough Tiger” during his sophomore year.

Nick Tobias placed 2nd in the Amicalola Classic and was given the “Tough Tiger” award as a sophomore. Tobias wrestled for 3 years, after missing all of last season with an injury.

With all the festivities going on Dawson was able to defeat both Winder-Barrow, 53-29, and Johnson, 66-15.

Pinning their opponents against Winder were: Kenneth Davis (160), David Wood (112), Charlie Short (119), Preston Adams (135) and Tobias (152).

Joe Perry dominated his Bulldog foe and won in a 19-4 decision.

Winning by way of forfeit were: James Evans (103), Justin Martin (215) and Patrick Allen (285).

Johnson was only able to fill a few weight classes, giving away several points to the Tigers by way of forfeit. Receiving wins because of forfeit were: Robert Dean, Patrick Allen, James Evans, David Wood, James Short, Joe Perry, Preston Adams, Josh Styles, William Ridings and Kenneth Davis.

Nick Tobias pinned his Johnson opponent in the first period to round out the scoring for Dawson County.

The Tigers will be back in action this Saturday as they will wrestle in the Northwest Georgia Duals at Chattooga High School.

Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.

Next Tuesday, Jan. 27 the Tigers will host North Hall and Fannin County at the Ford E. Phillips Center. The first match should start around 5 p.m.
