The city of Dawsonville may have to wait a few more weeks before a final decision can be reached with the county regarding law enforcement services.

In the Feb. 21 Dawson County Board of Commissioners voting session, the commissioners voted to approve two inter-governmental agreements regarding animal control and fire inspection with the city of Dawsonville.

However, the two entities continue to try to iron out the contract for law enforcement services, forcing the county to hold off its vote until a later date.

Currently, the city has no ordinances on the books regarding the use of radar, parking and ticketing enforcement and alcohol enforcement within the city limits, which makes it difficult for deputies to enforce or prosecute those violations, according to Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle.

City officials and Carlisle consider these issues easily resolved and do not foresee this agreement stalling for much longer.

"It's just a minor detail with the sheriff's office," said Dawsonville Mayor James Grogan. "It should be hammered out by the next time the city council meets."

Carlisle agrees.

"There is nothing major that's an issue. The agreement just needs to be tweaked a little," he said.

The city council is set to discuss the contract during its March 7 meeting. If approved, the contract will be returned to the county commission for its vote.
