ASK THE EXPERTS

Ladies out-kick Johnson in exhibition

POSTED: February 12, 2013 3:58 p.m.

Senior Jade Perry led the Lady Tiger varsity soccer team to a dominating 3-0 win over Johnson last Thursday in an exhibition match in Dawsonville.

Perry scored to put Dawson County ahead with 37:26 remaining in the second half after a scoreless first half. Taylor Bennett recorded an assist on the play.

Perry added another goal 13 minutes later with a blast from 25-yards out to give the Lady Tigers a commanding 2-0 lead.

Dawson County's final goal came off the foot of Bennett with 18:48 remaining. Bennett's goal was a hard hit ball that deflected off the Lady Knight keeper.

"What a great way to begin the season, coming out of here with a 3-0 victory over a very good Johnson team. We started off slow, but patient. We saw what we have to work on in the first half and the girls adjusted as the game went on. We are young. We lost 13 girls from last year's Elite Eight team and basically have a whole new starting line-up except for a few girls," said head coach Jed Lacey.

Lacey said this year's team will rely on its speed to get them past their opponents.

"I guess you see the theme of this year's team will be speed. We are so young in that we only have two seniors, three juniors, eight sophomores, and six freshman playing varsity. I have never had a team this young ever. Our goals do not change one bit though, win region, go to state, and win the thing," Lacey said.

Dawson County is currently ranked No. 9 in Class AAA.

The Lady Tigers will play their first regular season game at 5:30 p.m. Friday against Rabun County at home.
