Tigers on top in two matches

Dawson County held a tri-match Jan. 29 with Forsyth Central and Riverside Military Academy. The Tigers were victorious and defeated Central, 51-21, and Riverside, 51-27.

With the two wins Coach Arron Haynes' squad improved to 34-8 this season. This is the second most wins in school history.

Winning their matches by way of pin were: Harrison Adams (126 pounds), Cory Jenkins (132 pounds) and Evan Kells (170 pounds).

Levi Pressley (138 pounds) won his match 7-4 over Caleb Puentes from Central.

Picking up wins by way of forfeit were Zach Guy (160 pounds), Evan Kells (170 pounds), Gavin Brown (182 pounds), Keaton Toal (195 pounds), Jacob Haberkam (220 pounds) and Harley Vaughn (285 pounds).

This past weekend the Tigers picked up a second place finish at the Area 3 traditional tournament at Woodward Academy. It was a great meet for the Tigers with 12 wrestlers placing in the top six in their weight divisions.

Four Dawson County wrestlers won championships, which include Justin Evans (106 pounds), Kells (170 pounds), Toal (285) and Vaughn (285).

Capturing second place finishes were Cory Jenkins (132 pounds) and Gavin Brown (182 pounds).

Third place went to Adams (126 pounds), Pressley (138 pounds) and Guy (160 pounds).

Anthony Underwood came in fourth place in the 113-pound weight class. Finishing fifth was Haberkam (220 pounds), and coming in sixth was Coty Greer at 145 pounds.

This weekend the Tigers will travel to Ringgold for the Traditional Sectional tournament to be held Friday and Saturday.

Dawson County will be matched up with Area 2, whose teams include wrestling powerhouses Rockmart, Sonoraville, Gordon Central and Adairsville. Other teams in Area 2 are Callaway, Carver (Columbus), Cartersville, Central Carrollton, Chapel Hill, Coahulla Creek, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, North Murray and Ringgold.
