ASK THE EXPERTS

Riverview seventh-grade boys remain perfect

POSTED: January 29, 2013 4:39 p.m.

The Riverview Middle School seventh grade boys' basketball team moved to a perfect 11-0 with two Mountain League wins.

On Jan. 18 the Eagles hosted a good team from Pickens County Middle School.

The game was close throughout with Riverview leading 28-24 after three quarters of play.

Coach Mark Thomason's team picked up the offense in the final quarter and outscored the Dragons 12-7 to come away with the 40-31 win.

Connor Bearden led the Eagles offensively with 21 points.

"Connor had a big game for us on offense," Thomason said.

Eagles Cullen Reed also scored in double digits with 11 points.

Ryan Gallenkamp added six points in the victory.

"Cullen (Reed) really set up Connor for most of his points. I think Cullen ended with double digit assists for a double-double," Thomason said.

The Eagles played at home again on Jan. 22. The team faced off against Jasper Middle.

Once again Riverview was victorious with a 50-29 thrashing of the Dragons.

The fourth quarter was again the deciding factor in this game with Riverview outscoring Jasper 21-5. After three quarters the game was tight with the Eagles holding a small 29-24 advantage.

Eagles Bearden and Reed led the team in scoring with 17 and 16 points respectively.

Gallenkamp chipped in eight points.

"We didn't play well defensively, but our offense helped us out," said Thomason. "A big offensive output in the first and fourth quarters was the difference in the game."

The Eagles had one game remaining - on Monday -before tournament play starts this weekend. Results were not available as of press time.
