Boys split games

POSTED: January 22, 2013 3:24 p.m.

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys basketball team split their games last week with West Hall and Fannin County.

Both games were played at home.

Dawson County dropped a 60-45 decision to West on Tuesday before rebounding with a 42-37 decision against Fannin County on Friday.

The Tigers trailed 30-20 against the Spartans at halftime, but a poor shooting third quarter doomed Coach Wes Greer's team. Dawson County managed only three points in the quarter while West Hall racked up 22 points.

"Tuesday night was a disaster from the beginning," said Greer. "We just did not play well and they did."

The Tigers were led in scoring by Sam Muenchen with 18 points. Teammates Levi Whitmire, scored nine, Cullen MacDonald added eight, Terrell Dawson contributed with six, Steven Stanfill had three and Cameron Hudson scored one point for the Tigers.

Against Fannin County, the Tigers used a strong third quarter to outscore the Rebels 13-3 to overcome trailing at halftime 22-18 to take a 31-21 lead.

Both teams played evenly on offense in the final quarter with Dawson County scoring 11 points to Fannin's 12.

"Friday was better. We came out a little flat, but picked it up in the second half and played really well," Greer said.

Dawson County was led in scoring by Levi Whitmire with 11 points.

Also getting in the scoring column were: Sam Muenchen and Cullen MacDonald with 10 points each, Brandon Abbott with six points, JT Eggert scored three points and Steven Stanfill added two points.

The Tigers will play at 5:15 p.m. Friday at home against East Hall.

The boys currently have a 7-3 record.
