Dawson County rebounded Friday night, after losing to Buford on Jan. 8, to take a hard fought, 55-51, win over North Hall.

The Lady Tigers had to come back after trailing by five points early in the fourth quarter.

Trailing, 45-40, the Lady Tigers went on a 15-2 run to close out the win.

The Lady Tigers are currently 14-2 overall and 4-2 in Region 7-AAA.

Senior point guard Carly Gilreath led Dawson County in scoring with 16 points.

Lady Tiger post player Sheyenne Seabolt added 14 points for Coach Steve Sweat's team.

Seabolt also pulled down seven rebounds.

Kacie Bearden's only points of the game were three of the most important for Dawson County, as she sank a 3-pointer to put Dawson County ahead 46-45 - a lead it would hold the rest of the way - with 5:15 remaining in the game.

Ashley Parker followed with consecutive offensive rebounds and put-back lay ups after the Lady Tigers missed on consecutive trips to the line.

Dawson County finished just 5 of 12 from the free throw line.

The Lady Trojans (9-6, 3-3) finished 6 of 10 from the charity stripe, but what kept them in the game was their 3-point shooting (nine made 3-pointers) and their rebounding (out rebounded a tall Dawson County team 33-29).

"It was a game of lead changes, as you can see by the quarter scores. Both teams played really hard and battled each other throughout the entire game," Sweat said.

Adding to Dawson County's scoring were Parker with seven points. Parker scored five of those points in the fourth quarter.

Hannah Porter with six points, Allie Costley added five points, Karlie Bearden with four points and Kacie Bearden had three points.

"It was a real important region win," Sweat said.

Buford comes out ahead

The Class AAA No. 8 ranked Dawson County Lady Tigers did battle with perennial state contender Buford High School on Jan. 8 in Dawsonville.

Buford is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the state with an 11-3 overall record and are 5-0 in Region 7-AAA play.

Sweat's team fought throughout the contest and came up on the short end of a 71-57 score.

Buford's Kaela Davis scored a career-high 43 points in the game.

Davis made five 3-pointers and was 12-of-15 from the free throw line.

"She shines when the pressure's on and she wants the ball in her hands," Buford coach Gene Durden said. "She showed that tonight, and she scored just about every way she could."

The Lady Wolves held a 32-22 lead at halftime.

Dawson County came out after half and outscored Buford, 18-15, in the third quarter to cut the lead to, 47-40.

Seabolt had another big game on offense for the Lady Tigers. Seabolt led the team in scoring with 15 points.

Two other Dawson County players reached double digits, Gilreath added 12 points and Parker scored 10 points in the loss.

"This was a great battle between two ranked teams," Sweat said. "We played them tough but did not take advantage of getting them to turn the ball over. Defensive intensity was great but we have to get points when we stop them."

Finishing out the scoring for Dawson County were: Karlie Bearden -eight points, Kacie Bearden - seven points, Kenna Seitz - three points and Costley - two points.

The Lady Tigers are currently 13-2 overall and 3-2 in Region 7-AAA.

The Lady Tigers will play at 7 p.m. Friday night at home against Fannin County. Earlier this season Dawson County defeated the Lady Rebels, 49-42.

On Saturday the team will play at 1 p.m. at Philips Arena in Atlanta against Rabun County. The Lady Wildcats are currently 9-6 on the season.
