Thirteen named to all-area list

Thirteen Dawson County High School Tiger football players were named to The Times of Gainesville's All-Area football team last week.

Leading the selections were fullback and linebacker Zack Martin.

Martin was named to the first team defense. The 5-foot-11, 225-pound senior recorded 129 tackles, three sacks and one interception on defense.

On offense he had 612 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Named to the second team were seniors Tyler Dominy and Bruce Clark, as well as junior Max Muldoon.

Dominy, quarterback, completed 178 of 284 passes for 2,823 yards and 31 touchdowns while throwing only six interceptions.

The first team selection at quarterback was Deshaun Watson from Class AAAAA state champion Gainesville High School.

Watson, who has verbally committed to Clemson University, completed 305 of 434 attempts for 4,021 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Watson also picked up 1,430 yards on the ground and 24 touchdowns.

Tiger receiver Clark caught 45 balls this season for 787 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The first team wide receiver corps consists of Xavier Harper from Jackson County and Caleb Hayman from Gainesville.

Harper had 82 receptions for 1,185 yards and 10 touchdowns. Hayman caught 57 passes for 885 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Red Elephants.

Tiger kicker Muldoon was perfect on extra points this season. He hit 56. He was also 2 for 4 on field goals for the 6-5 team coached by Jeff Lee.

Matt Bonadies of Buford, and Carman Hicks of Banks County, were named first team.

Bondies, a kicker, was 64 of 67 on extra points, 12 of 16 on field goals, and 52 percent of kickoffs went into the end zone.

Hicks, a junior punter, averaged 38.8 yards per kick on 37 punts this season. Twelve of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line.

Nine Tigers were named as honorable mention selections: Seniors-Will Anglin, wide receiver, Harley Vaughn, offensive lineman and Blake McDaniel, defensive lineman.

Juniors making the team were: offensive linemen Eli Brown and Chase Wilson, linebacker Keaton Toal, defensive lineman Logan Hayes, athlete Chris Sayler and defensive back Jackson Putnam.
