Black's Mill Elementary kicked off its annual student art show on Dec. 4 at the Bowen Art Center.

The event marked the eleventh year for the show, but was the first time all of the art has appeared in one location.

"This is the first year we've had the framed art [at the Bowen Art Center]," said Tracy Burnette, art teacher at Black's Mill. "We normally do the framed art part of the show at the school and I thought what a good idea just to bring it all here and give the students a reception."

Burnette teaches art at both Black's Mill and Riverview elementary schools.

"This is my eleventh year teaching art," said Burnette. "I do a full year's work in 18 weeks with the students."

The art was divided into two methods of displace. Every student at Black's Mill had their piece of art framed and displayed in rows. Some students had their art specially chosen by Burnette. These pieces were placed on black backgrounds and placed on the walls of the Bowen Center.

The show represented every child at Black's Mill.

"Kindergarten through fifth grade is on display here," said Burnette. "Every child at Black's Mill did a piece."

Anne Marie Elliott, mother to fifth grader, Alexa, said the art show is an annual event in her household.

"We always come each year to see how their artwork improves as they grow," she said.
