It was ugly, but the Dawson County Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team came away with a narrow 23-21 victory over host Pickens County Middle School last Wednesday, Jan. 7. With the win, Dawson currenlty has a 5-4 record.

Head Coach Jonathan Tinsley commented about the, "It was one of those nights when the shots just wouldn't go in. We were down six points at the half, but I thought we did a good job in the second half of controlling the boards and picking up our defense. Our shots started to go down in the second half and we came away with the win."

Dawson finally took the lead with 2 minutes remaining in the game. The Dragons began to foul as time was whittling away.

The Tigers couldn't nail down their free throws, but took control at the end to come away with the win.

Scoring was evenly spread out for Tinsley's offense. Mitchell Putnam, Gunnar Armstrong and Hunter Wehunt each tallied 5 points. Will Anglin added 4 points, Matthew Hammond and Camron Chester each had 2 points for the Tigers.

The Tigers will have a week off before returning to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when the team will play host to Pickens County, in a rematch.

Tip-off will be at around 5:15 p.m.
