Ladies pick up region win

Team outscores Warriors 79-39

The Dawson County High School varsity girls basketball team controlled all aspects of the game last week against White County.

The Lady Tigers picked up a 79-39 win at home Dec, 18 against White County.

The Lady Tigers offense was hitting on all cylinders and scored 17 points in the first quarter, 24 in the second, 21 in the third quarter and 17 in the final quarter.

The 79 points was the highest total scored by the team this season.

Coach Steve Sweat's team has averaged 73.3 points over the last three games.

Sophomore Sheyenne Seabolt led all scorers with an impressive 21 points.

USC-Aiken signee, Carly Gilreath, also scored in double figures with 20 points.

Ashley Parker also had a nice game contributing 11 points in the win.

"This was an important early region win tonight," Sweat said.

Dawson County is currently 8-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 7-AAA play.

Also scoring for Dawson County were: Kenna Seitz and Hannah Porter with seven points each, Karlie Bearden scored five points, Allie Costley added four, Alison Honea scored two and Whitney Glover contributed two points and pulled down six rebounds.

Dawson County will play next on Dec. 27 against Hokes Bluff, Ala. in the Battle of the States tournament at Towns County High School.

Hokes Bluff High School is located close to Gadsden in northern Alabama.

Last year the Lady Eagles posted an 18-11 record.

Tip-off for the game with Hokes Bluff will be at 10 a.m.

The Lady Tigers are in the same bracket as Gordon Lee High School.

The Lady Trojans are currently 6-3 on the season and play in Region 6-A.

Other teams in the tournament are Hayesville, N.C., Polk County, Tenn., Union County, Murphy, N.C. and host school Towns County.
