The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade girls' basketball team defeated Pickens County Middle School 23-17 last Thursday, Jan. 8. Emily Ayers led the Lady Tigers with 8 points for the contest.

"We are still making too many turnovers at this point in our season," remarked head coach Tina Brown. "Every win is big for us due to the seeding of the tournament at the end of the season. We are just taking it one game at a time. Most of our games have been very close, so we cannot take any team for granted."

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a quick 7-2 first quarter lead over the Lady Dragons.

Dawson extended its advantage to 12-6 at the half. Brown's team never looked back as they held the Lady Dragons defensively in the second half to come away with the 6-point win.

Also scoring for Dawson were Brooke Duffy with 6 points, Hannah Moye with 5 points, Madison Shope added 3 points and Cassidy Byess contributed 1 point.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Thursday when they host Clear Creek.

Tip-off will be at 4 p.m.
