Gunnar Armstrong scored a team-high 17 points to lead Dawson County to a 42-38 win over White County last week in Dawsonville.

Armstrong hit a clutch three-pointer with less than a minute to go to tie the Dec. 18 game.

Dawson County then connected on free throws down the stretch for the win.

Coach Thad Burgess' Tigers remain undefeated with a 9-0 record.

The White County game was also a Region 7-AAA game. The Tigers are 3-0 in region play.

"This was a key region win before the break," Burgess said. "I'm very pleased how we found a way to win late in the game."

Dawson County used its defense to keep the high flying Warriors at bay in the first half.

The Tigers held a, 23-14, halftime advantage.

White County came out of the locker room on fire and outscored the Tigers, 16-8, in the third quarter to tighten the game up at, 31-30.

The teams played evenly in the fourth quarter until Armstrong hit the three that gave Dawson County momentum.

"The name of the game with this region schedule is to just find wins, especially at home. I thought the difference was our seniors late, making sure to have confidence even when we got down late," Burgess said. "White County was very good and played well.

"It was really good to get this win with our region schedule really getting difficult in January, with road games at East Hall, Buford, North Hall and West Hall."

Tyler Dominy also added double digits offensively with 10 points.

Will Anglin scored seven, Jonathan Sanderson and Lucas Pain added three points each and Camron Chester contributed two points each.

White County was led by Spencer Adams with 19 points.

Dawson County will be back in action on Dec. 27 at the Battle of the States Tournament at Towns County High School in Hiawassee.

The Tigers will open the tournament with an 11:30 a.m. game against Piedmont, Ala.

Piedmont is currently 3-6 on the season.

Players to watch on the Bulldogs are Darnell Jackson, Derek Thompson and Caleb Adams. Jackson is known for his three-pointers.

In the same bracket with Dawson County are Hayesville, N.C. and Gordon Lee.
